Traveling to Rome from Portland felt long this time. I had a few delays on my flights. In Chicago there were some lightning showers casing the flight to be pushed back around 2 hours, and I am not sure, but it felt like some of the airline seats have been modified, seems like my feet were swinging, and not resting fully on the floor. Perhaps the average person is getting taller. It made my legs want to go numb, and psychologically prolonged the flight. I met up with Stellas father and brother in Rome. They were driving from La Spezia in the northern Italy to Catania in Sicily. They wanted to give me a ride from Rome to Naples. The only hang up was that they could not be in Rome until 4:30 PM, which meant I had to wait around a little while.
The team here wanted to get Gelato, so I went with them, and returned to the room later, completely exhausted. I Talked to Stella on the phone, and then passed out and slept hard. Having no rigorous schedule yet to comply with, I slept until 8:30, and went down to the team room where all the planning is going on. I helped our transportation coordinator plan the airport and train station pick-ups that will be happening tomorrow, then rode downtown to the train station to pick up one of our people.
Some of my team arrived in Rome while I was there, they have a few days to walk around and check out the old City. We passed by each other, without noticing. I was likely dozing in and out; fighting the exhaustion while waiting for my family.
Giovanni and Samuele showed up rather on time, and after loading the luggage his roof rack, we continued on south towards Napoli. I hadn't yet eaten yet outside of the airplane, so we decided to stop in Caserta on our way for some Buffalo Mozzarella. This was something I have been waiting to eat for 2 years now, and will be eating all that I can get my hands on until I leave Naples. I will never be able to hype up the flavor of Napoli's Mozzarella too much. I got to the Hotel and checked in, Samuele and Giovanni continued on to try and make a ferry that shuttled from Sorrento to Catania overnight. Found out today (Wednesday) that they missed it's departure time, and continued to drive south through the night.
Stella is still in Portland, she has an appointment today at 1:00 PM at the Portland Immigration office. She will find out if there have been any new developments in locating and processing our application, and if yes, she will receive a 60 day travel stamp on her passport. If not, then the waiting game continues along with the struggle.
Praying you find your rhythm, they find the application, and you can focus while apart from your love!!
